Posted on February 24 2014

Pianists Stanislava Varshavski and Diana Shapiro will take center stage for a concert at 7:30 p.m. April 4 in the new Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance, located on the campus of Silver Lake College of the Holy Family, 2406 S. Alverno Road.

It will be the last of seven Artist Music Series concerts for the 2013-2014 season.

Varshavski and Shapiro, both natives of Russia, met at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. After winning numerous piano competitions around the world, they came to the United States, where they both earned doctor of musical arts degrees from UW-Madison. They were invited to join the 2012 roster for the Astral Artists, an organization that keeps classical music alive via current performing artists. They also released recordings and perform on Wisconsin Public Radio. Shapiro joined the SLC faculty in 2012 as assistant professor of piano.

Tickets are available through the Capitol Civic Centre box office at www.cccshows.org or by calling (920) 683-2184. Tickets are $17 for general admission, and $12 for students and seniors (ages 65 and older).

Other upcoming Artist Music Series concerts include the Wisconsin Brass Quintet (7:30 p.m. March 1) and Atlantic Wave (3 p.m. March 23). Those shows also will be held at the Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance.
