Silver Lake College of the Holy Family is delighted to invite the public to attend “The Rabbit Hero,” an exhibit of Visual Poetry and creative ingenuity by artist Anthony J. Brandl, on display in the College Cafeteria Gallery now through December 20th, 2013. The exhibit is open to the public without charge from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm Monday through Thursday, and from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm on Friday and Saturday. Brandl will give a public “Artist Talk” on Tuesday, November 19th at 1:00 pm in room 102, on the first floor inside the east entrance of the main College building.

Brandl explains about his drawings, “While the ‘Rabbit Hero’ and his vast supporting cast began as a straightforward superhero adventure, drawn in notebook paper booklets, it came, over time, to encompass my entire intellectual world, utilizing such diverse interests as spirituality, philosophy, history, theater, and, of course, comic books.”  Continuously struggling to find a medium for expressing the narrative explored through his creative drama, Brandl was introduced to Visual Poetry while pursuing his graduate studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.  He has since come to realize that Visual Poetry’s “habit of utilizing both text and imagery to create context suggested the ideal medium,” for his creative investigations. Brandl describes “the Rabbit Hero,” as “…the latest chapter in what I have come to consider a visual poetic epic; an epic which, like each of its viewer’s personal path to betterment, will never be finished, and occurs only within.”
