Silver Lake College Exhibits Spotlight Art by Seniors Hebert, Deeley
Art created by seniors Cassie Hebert and Samantha Deeley will be showcased at a pair of exhibits scheduled to open March 31 at Silver Lake College, 2406 S. Alverno Road.
Hebert’s exhibit, titled “In Series,” will be held in the art wing gallery. Deeley’s exhibit, titled “She and Her,” will be held in the college’s newly constructed gallery, 117. Both exhibits will run through May 2. A reception, which is free and open to the public, is scheduled for March 31 from 4 to 6 p.m.
Hebert is majoring in studio art, with a minor in psychology. She received her Associate of Arts and Science degree from UW-Manitowoc in 2008, where she was recognized with the Fine Arts Award of 2007 and 2008. She participated in ceramic and oil painting workshops at the Rahr-West Art Museum in Manitowoc, and also attended figure drawing sessions at Sheboygan’s Visual Artist’s Studio. She will be graduating with her Bachelor of Arts degree in May and will be pursuing her teaching certification at Silver Lake College in the fall. Hebert’s exhibit is an accumulation of works she completed throughout her education. “My work is mainly presented in series, focusing on the concept of time in relationship to oil painting and photography,” she said.
Deeley is majoring in studio art and English, with an emphasis in writing. Her exhibit combines visual art and poetry. Her charcoal drawings, sculptures and writings focus on the concepts of figure, human interaction and cultural stereotypes of the female form. “Through visuals and writing my works communicate with one another as well as with the audience through body language, facial expressions and personalities exhibited through clothing,” she said. After graduation, Deeley plans on returning to Silver Lake College for her certification in education.
Both exhibits will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
