Silver Lake College of the Holy Family is delighted to invite the public to attend the final tour performance of the Silver Lake Chorale at their Home Tour Concert on Friday, March 15, at 7:30 pm in the College Chapel, 2406 South Alverno Road, Manitowoc. The Silver Lake Chorale is a select group of Silver Lake College students who audition for membership, and who perform a cappella music literature of varying styles. The group includes Sopranos Danielle Brooks, Ashley Feldmann, Bridget Geniesse, Emily Laurin, Lolita Medina, and Kayln Nelson; Altos Amanda Dumovich, Anna Pajunen, Tammy Reigel, Katie Sievert and Brittieny Simmer; Tenors Andrew Bins, Christopher Guy, Jacob Mueller, Tom Roberts, and Kevin Sievert; and Basses Justin Mrotek, Michael Peeters and Shaughn VanGinkel. The next performance of this group will be with the Silver Lake Concert Choir and Children’s Choir for their Spring Choral Concert on Saturday, April 27, 2013. Individual members of the Chorale will also perform at upcoming music program recitals. Tom Roberts and Brittieny Simmer will offer their Sophomore Recitals on March 23; Danielle Brooks and Tammy Reigel will perform for their Senior Recitals on April 6. Follow us on Facebook or visit SL.edu/MusicEvents for more information on upcoming concerts and recitals.

The group recently returned from a three-state tour of Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa during the College spring break, March 3-8, with nine performances in five days, including educational outreach visits to local schools in Sherwood, Clarks Mills and St. Nazianz. The Chorale tour repertoire included sixteen pieces, with both secular and sacred music. The first set of pieces feature folk songs and spirituals, in keeping with the Kodaly focus for music education which has earned the College an international reputation. The second set celebrates motets, choral works with sacred Latin texts that are the original music of the Church. In the third set three motets are presented with texts traditionally associated with and specific to Christmas. The final set is an eclectic mix that includes an audience favorite, traditional Irish tune, Joseph Flummerfelt’s setting of “Danny Boy.” The concerts are always concluded with the Blessing of St. Francis, honoring the saint in whose teachings the College is rooted.
