Atlantic Wave to Perform At Silver Lake College on March 23

Posted on March 06 2014

Atlantic Wave, a Milwaukee-based Irish band playing the traditional music of Ireland, Scotland and Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, will perform at 3 p.m. March 23 at the new Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance, located on the campus of Silver Lake College at 2406 S. Alverno Road.

It will be the sixth performance in Silver Lake College’s seven-show 2013-14 Artist Music Series.

Atlantic Wave, which formed in 2004, is known for its high-energy shows that combine jigs, reels and strathspeys, with songs and ballads both old and modern. The band plays Celtic Trad music (Celtic meaning the music of Ireland and Scotland, and Trad meaning traditional music, albeit in a contemporary style). Its version of Celtic Trad is influenced by the style of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, where the band has close ties.

Band members include Kaitlin Hahn (fiddle, accordion, keyboards and “feet”), Barry Houlehen (lead vocals and acoustic guitar), John Karr (bodhran, bouzouki, percussion and backup vocals), Ed Paloucek (fiddle and hurdy gurdy) and James Reilly (flute, whistle and backup vocals).

General admission tickets are $17 for adults and $12 for students and seniors (ages 65 and older). For tickets, visit the Capitol Civic Centre box office at 913 S. Eighth St., Manitowoc, or visit www.cccshows.org or call (920) 683-2184.
