Something happened to Francis of Assisi near the end of his life which many people would consider odd, bizarre, or creepy; it was definitely unusual. Many people saw and testified to the fact that Francis had five wounds: one appearing on his side and each hand and foot.

Silver Lake College and St. Francis Of Assisi Parish Present The 2013-2014 Father Bill Zimmer Forum Beginning Sept. 10

Silver Lake College of the Holy Family and St. Francis of Assisi Parish are delighted to present the 2013-2014 Father Bill Zimmer Forum, a “book group for people of faith.” Book discussions are open to the public without charge and will be held in the Heritage Room (room 238, formerly the Grand Lounge) on the second floor of the main building of Silver Lake College, 2406 South Alverno Road, Manitowoc, on the second Tuesday of each month at 12:15 pm. There is no January Forum. Participants are welcome to bring their own lunch, or food is available for purchase in the College dining room beginning at 11:30 am.

Silver Lake College Announces Spring 2013 Dean’s List

Silver Lake College is pleased to announce the spring 2013 Dean’s List. This honor recognizes students in undergraduate programs of study who attend the Silver Lake College Manitowoc campus or at outreach locations throughout the state. Individuals named to the Dean’s List are full-time students with a minimum of 12 credits who have earned an academic grade point average of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale during the 2013 spring term. Honorees are listed alphabetically, along with their hometown.

Silver Lake College Presents Jelinek Art Exhibit Through September 20th

Silver Lake College of the Holy Family is delighted to present selected works of artist Kelly Jelinek in the College Cafeteria Gallery, 2406 South Alverno Road, Manitowoc, through September 20th.  Jelinek creates sculptures and 2-D mixed media pieces inspired by folktales and religious myths. Alonzo Kelly, Director of Graduate Business for Silver Lake College of the Holy Family, in a recent collaboration with business development expert and best-selling author Brian Tracy, co-wrote the book, The Ultimate Success Guide: The World’s Leading Experts Reveal Their Secrets for Success in Business and in Life. The book was released on May 30, 2013 by CelebrityPress, a leading business book publisher, and quickly reached best-seller status in five categories – reaching as high as #2 in the Direct Marketing category. The book also reached best-seller status in the Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Marketing and Sales, and ‘Small Business and Entrepreneurship’ categories.

Silver Lake College Awards Largest Number of Graduate Kodály Certificates in Program History

Silver Lake College of the Holy Family recently celebrated its 40th year of Kodály Summer Music Programs, with students participating in a three-week intensive program each of the last forty summers. Music educators from across the country as well as international students come to Silver Lake College seeking either a graduate Certificate in the Kodály method, or a Master of Music Degree with emphasis in the Kodály method, or taking courses for professional development. On July 3rd, fifteen Kodály Certificates were awarded to students who completed the required eighteen graduate credits, the largest graduating class in program history. July 2013 graduates were Amie Beeman of Odenton, Maryland; Audrie Burk of Naperville, Illinois; Rebeckah Cavanaugh of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin; Cheryl Coisman of New Franken, Wisconsin; Naomi Fritz of Watertown, Wisconsin; Melanie Gritters of Lakewood, New York; Gail Grundstrom of Jamestown, New York; Amy Kilpatrick of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Robert Kramer of Greenville, Wisconsin; Len Langrick of Baltimore, Maryland; Kari Longmire of Green Bay, Wisconsin; Amy Redeker of Waupun, Wisconsin; Carol Swinchoski of West Belmar, New Jersey; Sister Martina VanVu of Houston, Texas; and Jennifer Zimmerman of Dubuque, Iowa.

Silver Lake College Piano Professor Records with Wisconsin Public Radio, Now Offers Group Piano Classes

Silver Lake College of the Holy Family is delighted to announce the release of Dr. Diana Shapiro’s new CD, recorded live at Sunday Afternoon from the Chanzen, with Wisconsin Public Radio. She and piano partner Dr. Stanislava Varshavski performed compositions by Stravinsky, Brahms and Reger, one piano, four hands. Dr. Shapiro joined the faculty of Silver Lake College as Assistant Professor of Piano in fall 2012, and is pleased to offer group piano classes to the public in the fall, spring and summer. Details are available at Dr. Shapiro is excited to be able to expand on the College’s community music programming. “We believe very strongly that everyone has a right to music," she shares.
