Men's Basketball Team Falls to Calumet College of St Joseph at the Bradley Center
Last night the Silver Lake College men’s basketball team fell to the Calumet College of St Joseph Crimson Wave 84–78 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. Calumet, a member of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, jumped out to a 17 point lead in the first half as the Lakers came out sluggish from the start. In the second half, the Lakers came out with the hot hand and erased the 17 point deficit tying the score on a 3 point shot with eight minutes left by sophomore Dru Harris from Appleton. Calumet regained the lead for good on the next possession. The Lakers had four players in double figures; Javaughn Freeman led the way with 13 and John Duke, Darius Barnes and Anthony Parker each contributed 12. Other players contributing to the comeback were Tyler Wells sophomore from Canton, Ohio with 3 points, Austin Walker 6 points, Raul Neri 2 points, Dru Harris 6 points, Kyle Lundberg 6 points and Derek Domino with 6 points.
After the game, the players and coaches had the opportunity to stay and watch the Milwaukee Bucks and Cleveland Cavaliers players workout prior to their NBA game. After the workout, the team went to dinner and returned to watch the Bucks play the Cavaliers. “All of the players and coaches had a great time and I am sure many memories of the night will be revisited for many years to come. Many of the players parents attended the game as did many of the Lady Lakers basketball players. On behalf of the coaches and players, I want to say thank you to all who attended and support the team,” said Head Coach Phil Budervic.
The Men’s Varsity Reserve team plays tomorrow night against Fox Valley Tech immediately following the Lady Lakers game at 6:30 pm. The Men’s Varsity team plays this Saturday at 3:00 pm against another tough opponent from the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, St. Xavier University.
