Lakers Fall to Strong Viterbo Team Nov. 1
On Friday night, the Silver Lake College Lakers men’s basketball team lost to a strong, veteran Viterbo University team, 81-57. The game was closer than the score may indicate as the Lakers held a five-point lead in the first half before going into the Locker room down ten. The Lakers cut the ten-point half time deficit to six early in the second half before Viterbo’s senior post player, Cole Lewis, took over scoring thirteen of his fifteen points in the second half.
The Lakers were led in scoring by 6’5” Freshman Darius Barnes who scored a game high sixteen points including two “monster” dunks. He also shot 100% from the free throw line making all seven attempts. John Duke also from Milwaukee scored fourteen, Derek Domino from Parkland, Florida scored nine points and Kyle Lundberg from Delray Beach, Florida contributed seven. The Lakers were led in rebounds by Darius Barnes with five and Sophomore Anthony Parker from Gainesville, Florida with four.
“Viterbo is a very nice team with great senior leadership. I thought our team gave a great defensive effort and played hard. We also received a great effort from our bench tonight. However, when you shoot 35% from the floor for the game, it is very difficult, if not impossible, to beat a strong, well-coached Viterbo University team, ” said head coach Phillip Budervic.
The Lakers’ record is now 1-1 while Viterbo is 1-0. The Lakers’ next game is 7:30 pm Tuesday November 5th at Judson University followed by a home game on Wednesday November 6th at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee against Calumet College of St. Joseph. Tipoff is 3:00 pm followed by the Milwaukee Bucks v. Cleveland Cavaliers NBA game at 7:00 pm.
