Laker Cross Country Makes its 2013 Season Debut at the Tom Barry Invitational

The Silver Lake College of the Holy Family Cross Country team made its 2013 season debut at the St. Norbert College Tom Barry Invitational on Saturday, August 31st.

In the Women’s 5K event, Taylor Vanden Plas led the Lakers placing 67th (22:22) just ahead of teammate Mary Bettag in 68th place (22:24).  Both Vanden Plas and Bettag’s times were personal records at the 5K distance.  Sophia Chin also set a personal record finishing 109th with a time of 25:59, 1:24 better than her previous personal record.  Johniece Gilliam made her college debut placing 116th (30:32).  Additional returning runners competing included Sarah Craw (119th place, 31:18) and Olivia Johnston (120th place, 35:38).

In the Men’s Four Mile event, the Laker Men were led by BJ Ropel in 58th place (23:31) and Austin Allen-Walker in 104th place (27:51).  The team hopes to have additional runners competing in upcoming meets after injury issues have been resolved for several runners.
