Lady Lakers vs Mount Mary

Posted by on 17 December 2013

The Lady Lakers improve their record to 5 and 4 with a victory over the visiting NCAA III Mount Mary Angels 84 to 45. The Lady Lakers bolted to a 15 to 0 lead to start the game and never looked back. It certainly was a great defensive effort especially early in the first half. The Lady Lakers were very efficient with their offense as well and dominated the first half 36 to 15. For the game, the Lady Lakers shot an impressive  51% from the field as well as 50% from the 3 point line for the game. This was a total team effort, and everyone on the roster contributed.

Lady Lakers vs Moody Bible Institute

Posted by Mike Flentje, Head Women's Basketball Coach on 11 December 2013

The Lady Lakers lost a hard fought road game in Chicago to the Moody Bible Institute Lady Archers 90 to 75. The score certainly was not indicative of how close the game really was. The Lady Lakers down by 10 at the half and as many as 15 in the second half got within 3 points with approximately 6:30 left in the game. Unfortunately after getting within 3 points, the Lady Lakers came down the court and got 2 great shots but the ball would not drop through the hoop. After some very good defense from both teams, the Lady Archers came down and scored twice boosting their lead to seven point lead with less than 4 minutes to go in the game. We were forced to press them to try and force a turnover. They took care of the ball very well and we had to foul. Moody was red hot from the free throw line hitting 18 out of 19 free throws down the stretch to seal the victory. I was extremely proud of our players. They played extremely well and fought very hard to get the game within 3 points from a double digit deficit. If we could have gotten the lead the results could have been very different. The loss dropped the young Lady Lakers to a 4 and 4 record.

Tuesday night the men’s basketball team traveled to Carthage College to play a varsity reserve and varsity game. In the varsity reserve contest, the Lakers lost 97-84. It was great to see several of the players get a chance to place some longer minutes than they do in the varsity games. All eight players hit the scoring column. Wesley Dowell and Chris Jones led the way with 14 points each. Three other Lakers scored in double figures. Dru Harris and Aaron Davis each had 11 points and Austin Walker contributed 10 points. Lady Lakers vs Indiana Northwest University

Posted by on 9 December 2013

The Lady Lakers started off the game extremely cold from the field and gave up 12 unanswered points to start off the game Friday evening. The Lady Lakers never recovered from the slow start and lost the game to a very athletic Indiana Northwest University Lady Red hawks 87 to 50. The Lady Red hawks were red hot from the field hitting 58.5% from the field and 42.9% from the 3 point line. I was very proud of our effort. The Lady Lakers played extremely hard on defense throughout the entire game. They never gave up despite the score. After reviewing the stats from Friday nights game, we match them in most categories except the shooting percentage.

Lakers vs Concordia Chicago Cougars

Posted by Phil Budervic, Head Men's Basketball Coach on 5 December 2013

Yesterday the men’s basketball team traveled to Chicago to take on the Concordia Chicago Cougars. The Lakers lost 93 – 69. The Lakers struggled from the opening tip to stay even with the Cougars. The Lakers battled back late in the first half to cut the lead to 24-23 but again falling victim to turnovers and poor shot selection as the Cougars went on a 17-2 run to end the half with the Lakers trailing 41-25.

Lady Lakers vs UW Manitowoc

Posted by Mike Flentje, Women's Basketball Coach on 5 December 2013

The Lady Lakers improved their record to 4-2  tonight with a victory over cross town rivals UW Manitowoc Lady Blue Devils 94 to 51. The Lady Lakers played excellent defense especially in the beginning of the second half causing the Lady Blue Devils to turn the ball over 30 times. That is probably the best team defensive of the year. The Lady Lakers also dominated the offensive boards to give them several opportunities to score on second chances. I was very pleased with their effort but feel that we can get even better! The Lady Lakers are very young having eight of their ten players either sophomores or freshmen.
