Lady Lakers vs Gogebic Community College

Posted by on 20 January 2014

The Lady Lakers broke their two game losing streak with a convincing 87 to 68 victory over Gogebic Community College. Despite not playing up to their potential in the first half the Lady Lakers played well enough to maintain the lead. The team came out very focused in the second half both on offense and defense outscoring the Lady Samsons 40 to 30 to maintain the lead. The Lady Lakers did not take care of the well in the first half and Gogebic fought back from a 17 point deficit to only trail by 9 in the first half 47 to 38. That was a great win for Silver Lake. The team had four games this past week and they responded extremely well going 2-2 playing some very competition. We are extremely proud of the energy the team showed this weekend especially in today's game.

Mid way throught the second half the Lady Lakers actually tied up the score. Then a 9-0  run with three three point baskets by Finlandia opened up the lead and they never looked back. The team played with great energy tonight but could not get the ball to fall late in the second half.

Lakers vs Maranatha Baptist Bible College

Posted by on 17 January 2014

Last night, behind a great defensive and rebounding effort, the men’s basketball team defeated the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders 56-50 in overtime. The Lakers worked hard to build up a 12 point lead just before the half. With 3 seconds left in the half, the Lakers stole an inbounds pass and Kyle Lundberg hit nothing but net from half-court to increase the half time lead to 15. In the second half, the Crusaders made a run chipping away at the lead. With 17 seconds left in regulation, the Crusaders hit a 3 point shot to tie the game at 47. The Lakers ran a play for the win which was not successful. The Lakers kept their composure during overtime never giving up the lead. The Lakers hit several key free throws down the stretch to seal the victory. It was truly a team effort where everyone contributed and did the little things which never show up in the scorebook.

The home town Maranatha Baptist College Lady Crusaders snapped the Lady Lakers 3 game winning streak with an 71 to 68 overtime victory in Watertown WI. Mid way through the first half the game was very close with the lead going back and forth several times. In the closing minutes the Lady Lakers had some untimely turnovers as well as fouls putting the Lady Crusaders at the free throw line where they converted 80% of threir free throws helping them to a 34 to 21 lead at the half. The second half the Lady Lakers played extremely well on defense holding Maranatha to 24 point while executing the offense and scoring 37 in the half. The Lady Lakers tied the game with seven seconds to go on a three point shot made by Freshmen Corrina Bearmount sending the game into overtime. It was very gratifying to see the Lady Lakers battle back the entire second half to tie the game. The Lady Lakers found themselves 5 points down with 31 seconds to go in the overtime. The team came down and made the basket getting the game back within three. Silver Lake did have an opportunity to tie the game once again but our three point attempt was just short.

Lady Lakers vs Mount Mary College

Posted by on 15 January 2014

The Lady Lakers improved their record to 8-5 by winning their third straight game over NCAA Division III Mount Mary University 78 to 60. This was the first road game of the second half of the season and the Lady Lakers got off to a very sluggish start. The team did pick up the pace on defense and fought back late in the first half to take the lead just before half time 43 to 39. The second half the team played with much more enthusiasm.  The Laady Lakers played extremely well on defense causing many turnovers which turned into easy layups to put the game away. The coaching staff was very excited to see the effort on the court as well as the enthusiasm on the bench in that second half. This was a team victory.
