Silver Lake College invites everyone to join us for our first annual “Banned Books Read Out” on Tuesday, 9/24/13, from 7:00-9:00 pm in the Zigmunt Library. Each September, the book community shines a light on censorship and celebrates our freedom to read by acknowledging books that were (or are) banned from schools or libraries for various reasons. This year the Zigmunt Library will host a “Read Out” with people reading out loud from banned books as a form of protest/participation in our democratic system. Students, faculty and staff are welcome. Readers will give a brief background (when, why, where the book was banned) and share an excerpt with the audience – about 5 minutes total. We will have a continual stream of readers for at least an hour followed by a reception with coffee and snacks. If you have questions or need more information, please contact Katie Walkner at Katie.Walkner@sl.edu or 920-686-6145.
