The Lakers lost a close game last night at Northland International University by the score of 81-78 on a last second shot from deep in the corner. The team came out looking tired and turnovers were a challenge. At one time they held a 6 point lead but were then down by 8 points several times. In the end Northland determined the outcome of the game.
The Lady Lakers improved their record to 3-1 by defeating the Northland International University Lady Pioneers by the score of 79 -69. Our young team is beginning to play very well together especially on offense. Everyone on the roster scored points last night. Despite having some lapses on defense, we played well on offense working the ball around and getting some very good looks to the basket. Leading the Lady Lakers was Courtney Clavers with a double double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. Abby Gerhard from Iron Mountain, Michigan came off the bench and added 17 points. Lyndsay Holschbach added 10 points.
This past Saturday, the Men’s basketball team took on the NAIA D-II 11th rated St Xavier Cougars at home. The near capacity crowd did not have to wait long for excitement. Darius Barnes, a Freshman from Milwaukee scored 10 of his Laker Leading 28 points in the first three minutes including two monster dunks as the Lakers jumped out to a 10-5 lead. The Lakers continued to go toe to toe with the Cougars and took a 47-45 lead into the locker room at the half thanks to a great tip in at the buzzer by Sophomore Austin Allen Walker from Milwaukee.

We have exciting news from cold and snowy New York. Mary Bettag had a very impressive run finishing 29th. The top 25 receives All American status. She just missed that honor. Taylor VandenPlas also did extremely well with a 55th place. Sophia Chin ran and great race for her 1st National appearance, finishing a respectable 110th place. All three young ladies represented Silver Lake extremely well.
